FIELD LIGHTING & ENG CONTRIBUTION

Build an outdoor camera position that can survive a change in weather and still produce a dependable signal.

Start with the sun

Scout the sun path across the full shoot window. A diffusion scrim can soften a moving key, while negative fill keeps faces from flattening. Secure every stand for the expected wind and keep escape routes clear. Choose IP65-rated LED arrays and connectors appropriate to the conditions; the rating of one fixture does not make the entire power chain weatherproof.

Bring the picture home

A bonded cellular encoder can combine available 5G and other links for SRT contribution. Test actual carrier coverage, congestion and uplink at the operating position. Provision enough bitrate for the encoder and leave headroom for retransmissions; cellular conditions can change quickly.

Measure on location

Use a daylight-viewable waveform monitor to check exposure and clipping, then verify color and audio at the receiving end. Provide rain covers, strain relief and a dry place for batteries and network equipment. A rehearsal should include a link interruption and a return to service.

CONTINUE TO THE CONTROL ROOM

Explore broadcast IP systems, timing and the multistream bandwidth calculator.
